Your Engine Light

Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

Negative emotions are like the instrument panel on our dash board. They let God’s man know something is wrong.  When the light goes on, he can’t ignore it, He’s got to check it out. He has to initiate the sequence to manage the thoughts and behaviors filtered through those emotions or be in much deeper trouble.

Translation: When emotions are swirling and negatively influenced perceptions are tossing you around, STOP. Observe. Evaluate reality. Reach for the truth, hang on to it, walk in it and let your emotions come after you’ve been obedient.

Remembering our identity in Christ and acting on it under pressure can be difficult, especially when emotional comfort is on the line.  When we want something badly, we don’t want to think.  Satan knows this.  That’s why he wants you to feel your way into wrong actions versus act the right way into new feelings.  Satan aggressively waits for me to give in to those emotions because he knows they will be as unreliable and inconsistent as those emotions and as easy to control.  When you are low, he wants you to attach to the perceptions created by your emotions that all is lost, all is fatal and final. God, on the other hand, says, “I am with you in the valley of the shadow of death, no need to fear, I will walk you through this.  Painful, yes, but also purposeful and productive for you.”

Father, flash a huge light on my dash board, I tend to be a little irresponsible. I sometimes put a piece of tape over it.
