Choosing your Authority
“And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18
Who do you believe? We all choose our source of authority. When your back is against the wall and push comes to shove, who or what gets to determine good and evil in your life? Whatever gets to determine good or evil, right from wrong, moral and immoral, that right there is your source of authority. That makes certain values, certain convictions, certain beliefs, not just unpopular but people become antagonistic if you hold to views that are contrary to those views.
You are labeled as bigoted, uninvolved, or stupid for being so absolute. In our culture there is no absolute truth and everybody’s truth is valid truth and should be respected. In that kind of culture, if that is the prevailing mind set, holding to such a black and white position creates conflict.
God’s man always defers to God’s person and God’s word. We do what expresses love for God and love for people at any given moment, that’s our identity and authority. Our source of authority is the person of God and the Word of God. It’s only in our arrogance, when we elevate our own opinion in mind or matter of situation above God’s revealed opinion and mind, that we become truly stupid. The math works every time.
Father, thank you for the authority and conviction that only you can supply.
