Victory at the Cross

And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:15

It’s fine to believe in Christ’s victory over Satan at the cross.  We all need to believe in that promise of Satan’s ultimate defeat.  But it’s a far different thing to step out on that promise and fight when you’re outsized, outmanned, outsmarted, and outmatched in every way.  Jesus has told His guys they’ve already won, but how many are ready to walk in that promise and actually fight?

Caleb chose not to focus on the enemy but on the promise of God.  A fighting God’s man is not cowered by the Devil, he’s caught up in the victory he knows God’s already won.  That sort of man is an unstoppable force, the kind of motivated fighter God is looking for.  Listen to what God says about Caleb:  “Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it” (Numbers 14:24). Which spirit did Caleb have?  A willingness to fight and experience the promised victory through the struggle.  He rejected the easy way the Devil always offers and stood for God’s work, in him and through him.

As your character grows and changes, the attacks change too.  Satan doesn’t attack a babe in Christ the same way he does a mature, disciplined soldier.  The tactics change based on your resolve and spiritual disposition.  He only changes his tactics if he can’t continue to hold you hostage through the impure passions he exploited before.

Satanic suggestions should be expected to come to us every day, from all sides, and with great intensity.  We are in the land, and we’re to fight with the assurance of God’s direction.

Father, it’s over, you made it public at the cross. Let me demonstrate it.
