The Little Lawyer
“For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4
The little lawyer sounds like you. In fact, he is you, but he’s being encouraged by Satan with plenty of logical ammo. We don’t have to wonder why men become so smart and so dumb at the same time. We can all justify our wrong behavior and grow stupid enough to believe our own logic. Satan figures if we’re dumb enough to hang ourselves by the noose of self-deception, the least he can do is provide the rope of rationalization.
Satan’s high intelligence makes him a sophisticated engineer of deception. He’s an artist of the lie, both devious and deliberate. He knows the exact logic that fits the agenda of the flesh and creates the moment of rebuttal against the conscience.
A good example is Ananias and his wife. They sold a piece of property with full knowledge they kept back part of the money that they inferred had been given to the church. Poetic isn’t it. Ananias and his wife were sold the logic that keeping part of the money was OK and then they proceeded to sell God. Clearly the devil exploited what was already inside these two. Using perverted logic to damage the early church’s’ power and ministry in Jerusalem. Peter filled with the Holy Spirit, exposes these two, something tipped him off, he knew that Satan loves to exploit human logic.
Combating satanic deception and rationalization always starts with the willingness to have a truth encounter with God, yourself, and others. When we refuse truth, we leave the door wide open to deception and destruction.
Remember, Satan is in any dark part of your character that has not yet been yielded to the truth.
Thank you, Father, for showing me the result of the little lawyer and his friend within.
