Come to Jesus Meeting
Break up your unplowed ground and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord; circumcise your hearts, you men of Judah. (Jeremiah 4:3-4)
This is a textbook “come to Jesus” meeting with His boys. Why the energy? Why the passion? Why the focus on their worship of God alone? Answer: His purposes of advancing in the world depended on it. Want to feel real power? Just pop the hood and let the Master mechanic have His way.
So what’s under the hood of your spiritual life? A kitty or a viper? Does your spiritual engine perform or sputter when you hit the throttle? Do you feel His power propelling you past your shortcomings, through your difficulties, and into health in your relationships? Or do you feel like you’re driving Auntie Eleanor’s 64 Falcon stuck in first gear? God is looking for a full-throttle man — a man who worships Him with his very life.
Jesus looked forward to a day when the passions and energy of men would be fully and unashamedly deployed for God’s purposes. He told a woman to watch for this day. “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshiper must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24).
Commit sincerely. We all have failed in the past to live up to our commitments. This does not mean we quit making commitments because we break them anyway. It means thank God for His grace and move on. In the words of Winston Churchill,” never, never, never, never, never, never, never, give up,” on what God has done for you.
Thank you Father, for never giving up on me.
