Like a city that is broken into and has no walls is a man who has no control over his sprit. Proverbs 25:28
We all know men whose perceptions were obscured by out–of-control emotions, and it led to a fireball falling from the sky. Rightly managed emotions have the potential to get us to our destinations as God’s men. But in the wrong hands, they can turn us into flying bombs. Satan is very aware of the situation.
Every man is like a hub for many Airbus 300s loaded down with tons of fuel and each with devastating potential. An emotionally uncontrolled man is ripe for a hijacking. It’s only by managing our emotions God’s way that we can strike a blow to Satan and foil his plots.
A major component to emotions is anger. There’s an elephant in the room, and it gets larger by the hour when it’s not acknowledged, dealt with, and eliminated. Unresolved anger in any form puts a neon welcome sign up for evil. Whether your anger is triggered against yourself or others it can be devastating.
Like me, you might be tempted to say, “I don’t have a problem with anger.” Fair enough. The problem, however, is that anger is simply the baseline emotion behind the expressions of it: Irritation—exasperation—bitterness—contempt—aggravation—frustration—resentment—envy—agitation—rage—scorn—jelousy—annoyance—hostility—vengefulness—coveting..
Anger is an emotion and it is not to be eliminated. It is to be directed and controlled by the Holy Spirit. Certainly God is angry with evil as we should be. When we are unaware of or have misguided anger we have become a casualty in our war against self and evil.
Father, you have not left me defenseless, you have given me choice.
