Nail This Down

What shall we then say, if God is for us who can be against us? Romans 8:31

God’s plan is not immunity from the struggle but victory over the temptation.  God told the men of Israel that He would give them the land and that they would be victorious.  A lot of men hearing this promise were elated.  But they went from elation to deflation when they realized they need to suit up, show up, and engage the people hand to hand to receive it.  They wanted God to simply hand it over.  But what good would that do? Would they have appreciated it as much in the long run?  And would giving it to them outright have produced the faith their Commander was really looking for?

You are already victorious over Satan in Christ.  Not only has God said it, Christ has accomplished it.  The second part is harder to swallow — and requires faith.  That is, while you and I are victorious, we can’t escape the battle just yet.  We must head into the fight with that promise from Christ strapped under our belts — He has given us power over our enemy, and He will help us achieve the victory.  Guys who get this are commended in the Scriptures as having a different spirit.

We need fighters who discern evil, who walk in victory over the Enemy, who are willing to show up every time.  I realize that only a few will have this kind of spirit, but I’m praying that you will be one of them.  Dare to submit to God’s promise not just in your comfort but in a willingness to fight.

As Joshua and Caleb tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.” They went on to say.  “Do not be afraid, because we will swallow them up.” Their faith was not in their ability but in God’s promise.

Father, you have declared me righteous, now may I only act like it.
