“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5
An important tool in cardiology, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machines are especially helpful; not only in seeing the condition of the heart, but in evaluating the prescription for overall improved heart health. What makes this medical marvel irreplaceable is its ability to see small structure or blockages — peer into valves and chambers — assess the overall structure and shape of the heart — look directly at the coronary arteries feeding into the heart.
It’s all about detection. These scans reveal the size, shape, condition, and position of the heart, which is exactly what Jesus was after spiritually. He saw where the spiritual or emotional blockages were clogging someone’s ability to believe — peer into the valves and chambers of their experiences — assess the overall structure of the character these experiences produced — look directly at the truths or lies presently feeding into their beliefs about Him and His plan for their lives.
Jesus took pictures. He showed what He saw. He identified core problems and helped people see the picture of their problem. Then He offered Himself and His way as the solution. In the end, the patient chooses to accept the diagnosis or reject it — to pursue spiritual health or put it off for later.
To love others in a meaningful way requires discernment, which in turn requires a good knowledge and understanding of people. A person’s gestalt (gesh-TALT), the core thoughts and experiences, constitute who that person really is when integrated as a whole. This means you care enough to know their heart issues and you’re good at asking questions that connect to the heart.
Father, I have the mind of Christ. You said it, by faith I claim it.
