Maintain Your Faith
“I write these things that you may know you have eternal life.” I John 5:13
This is how a relationship with God begins initially, and it is the way a relationship with God is maintained continually — by faith. Practically, it means God’s man must simply take God at His Word and leave the results to Him, based on who He is and what He did to earn our trust. You say you don’t know how this is possible? No man modeled this kind of faith for us better than Abraham, and we would do well to study his response to God’s promise and instruction:
So that’s why faith is the key! God’s promise is given to us as a free gift. And we are certain to receive it… if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe – He was absolutely convinced that God was able to do what he promised. And because of Abraham’s faith, God declared him to be righteous. (Romans 4:16, 30-22, NLT)
There’s no back door here. In fact, what we see is a guy doing what God still wants to see happen daily — a man going with His way. So the question for you and for me is this: Are we responding to God in faith?
With Abraham there was no law. The law was not given to man until much later. Abraham did not act because he had to obey certain laws. With Abraham it was faith in the promises of God. There was no, do this but not that. It was simply, believe in my promises. Trust me, that what I say, the promises I give, will be honored. Does that take risk? Yes, but what is the other option? God made him righteous by honoring the faith that He gave Abraham. My friend, your faith has made you whole. God loves you.
Father thank you for the gift of faith, help me cherish it.
