Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. I John 5:14

Not only is it desirable for God’s man to be filled and influenced totally by the Holy Spirit, it actually is a direct order — the tense used in the Bible is the imperative.  In other words, God’s man must be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Let’s consider some good old fashion rational thinking by asking a few questions.  If we are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit, is it God’s will that we are to be filled with his Holy Spirit?  The rational person would say yes, don’t you agree? What do you suppose one would have to do to be filled with the Holy Spirit, according to our scripture verse at the top of the page? … Right!!… Ask. Now if you ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, will God honor His promise? Did you ask Him to fill you?  Are you filled? Are you now still doubtful as to his filling?  Where do you suppose that doubt would come from? An old fashioned definition of faith in God’s promises is ‘acting as if you have received God’s promises.’

The Bible tells us that either our sinful appetites will dominate us or we will hunger to please God.  When we say yes to the Holy Spirit, we are saying no to the sins that caused Jesus to die for us.  We are also agreeing to the strong leadership and calling of God’s Spirit upon our lives.  When that happens, we experience a new life. You may or may not have heard this, faith grows like a muscle, the more you use it the bigger it gets.

Holy Spirit, I know I need you.  I know that I am tempted to be in control of my life, and when I am, I miss out on Your wonderful plan. Thank You for Your continuous presence in my life, I ask, Holy Spirit, that You take control of my life right now and fill me. In the name of Jesus I come to you, Amen.

Father, you have provided me everything, but you have not taken choice from me. Thank you for your provision to use it wisely.
