You Need an Anchor

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him.  ––1 John 5:14-15

When you are confused and feel tossed by life’s waves, you need an anchor. The anchor on your journey to glory is obedience to the Word of God. When you are confused and dismayed, when God’s taking you through one of the storms on the voyage to glory and you don’t know what to do, don’t stop obeying His Word.

Joshua 1:1-11 can tell us a lot about what obedience looks like. In the midst of Joshua’s problems God was saying, “Do not turn to the right or to the left. Hold the rudder that steers you into obedience to my will.” Then God gives him the “how to” in verse 8, which says, “Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything in it, then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Discipline yourself to say no to feelings and fear and say yes to your faith and to the Word. In order to achieve victory over fear and feelings you need to flex your spiritual muscles. Meditation means to think deeply and continuously on something. You have to dwell in it; you have to think deeply on it. It’s a muscle like any other, and you have to build it up.

How? Start with a few minutes a day if you are not used to sitting quietly and thinking on God’s Word. Read a chapter a day and build from there. As you meet Him, He will meet you. When you dwell in His presence, not only does He become Your anchor, but He also becomes your safe harbor.

Father, your Word is a light unto my path. I trust your love for me.
