You Married Men

“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”
(Proverbs 31:11-12)

Hey, here’s a concept. Ask your wife to be a forward observer in your life. I dare you.  If you are married your wife is uniquely positioned to be an intimate ally in the battle against sin in your life.  She can provide a voice that warns and protects against any sin she might see developing in you.  I know you might be reading this saying, “This guy’s nuts.  My sins? What about hers?” Don’t get defensive. Consider this: God gave your wife her role to speak into your life. If God is speaking to her, you have the responsibility to invite her into your growth.  Why? Because you need her!  The question is: Have you given her permission to point out anything inconsistent with God’s Word?  That’s the ruthless way!  Also, it will add respect to her.

The Holy Spirit uses things close to us in our lives, do you know of anyone closer? If you do that’s another problem.  The Holy Spirit makes us aware of the sins that need to be eliminated.  He will let you, as God’s man, clearly know whether something isn’t right under the hood.  It could be a repeated thought, a sense of unease, a circumstance that confirms a suspicion, or even an undeniable “Aha!” moment as you’re reading Scripture.  The Holy Spirit living inside you makes that urging possible.  Without it, the change either doesn’t happen or it doesn’t happen right.  He alone brings Christ’s sin-destroying power to move us to freely serve Him.  “The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).  This is why we must learn to recognize His voice, obey it promptly, and invite Him to daily direct our minds, hands and hearts.  Yes, and as scripture says this can be done through our wife.

Father, Thank you for giving me the guts to ask my wife to point out my sins.
