And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. He who has the Son has the life; He who does not have the Son does not have life. These things I have written you so that you may know you have eternal life. I John 5:11
God works through incentives. That’s an interesting thought. I have often said that any task seems effortless when I am motivated. Motivation is provided through incentives. This is the gospel in a nut shell for me. It is true that a father is more pleased by a son who wants to shine his shoes rather than a son who has to shine his shoes. How about you? Are you more pleased with your wife or child because they have done an act for you out of love, or out of obligation? Wow, sounds like law or grace here a little bit doesn’t it? There is sacrifice in any act performed for someone in a relationship with you but, Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Our Father, in His perfect divine wisdom, has set this whole thing of Christianity up for us to have an abundant, inspiring, free loving experience, and yet Satan has done a job on our perspective. He switches our mind from the new plan or covenant to the Old. What’s your incentive for serving? Is it out of need to or is it out of want to? Are you obligated or thankful? Jesus took the obligation away. He wanted to, do you want to?
Thank you, Father, for your incentive.
