Emotional Isolation

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”  Matthew 11:28

The hard truth is that there is no such thing as emotionally satisfying self-sufficiency.  There is only one with unlimited emotional resources — and you are not Him — you are in Him.

“‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you.”  That includes isolating emotions. The hard truth is a relationship with Jesus Christ involves suffering. Sign me up! It’s just like Jesus to keep it real even if it means fewer members. He accepts us as we are but loves us too much to leave us the way we are. Oh man, that’s awkward, but it’s a necessary part of reality and loving someone to health.  Jesus has seen our movie — every frame. Nothing is lost in translation here.  Jesus knows all the facts about our dark places.  That is either terrifying or quite relieving. Which of those thoughts makes you love Him more?  Now we don’t have to pretend or hide anything. The wonderful truth is that we are never or never will be separated from His encouragement — ever.

How does God’s man know his character is becoming more like Christ — He’s learned that emotionally convenient and comfortable response is often the misleading one.  He is guided by the Holy Spirit’s strong leadership, and finds truth in reality.  When this happens, plenty more good stuff comes about in God’s man.

Father, it is good to be reminded that you use my down times to teach my need for reliance on you.
