“If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (John 1:6-8)
My buddy Paul, “The f-18 man,” put this into perspective when he told me about the mechanics of night vision. “Night-vision goggles take ambient light from the stars and moon and amplify it. If there’s no light, there’s no sight.” There are spiritual implications. If the light of Christ isn’t present in your life, you will not see the Enemy, or the ground, before you crash. Spiritual night vision requires available light in you before it can be amplified to help win a fight. The ambient light of your spiritual character comes from rooting out darkness and internal strongholds and allowing God’s Word to illuminate your mind. And it’s crucial, as you move forward, that spiritual preparation and inventory should be taken to guard your “amplification ratio”. To gain sight for the battle, you must be a man of light.
God’s message is crystal clear; how can a man discern the darkness when he’s shaking hands with it in one form or another? There’s something wrong with that picture. You know it, but more important God knows it and He isn’t fooled by it. It would be the equivalent of handing a gun to a guy convicted of armed robbery and telling him to use it for good. So be sure to take a spiritual inventory of any sin blockages produced by pride in your life.
Take a real close look. I know few readers will actually do it, but look closely at your relationship to God’s Word and how you are applying it in your relationships with people. The ambient light means usable night vision.
Thank you Father for the ambient light you have given me. I will use it to your and my benefit with the Power of your Holy Spirit.
