 Mutual Cooperation

“I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me” John 13:23

Jesus is saying “Father, root them in your love by helping them see, accept, and embrace your unconditional acceptance, the same acceptance you have for me.  Then cut ‘em loose!”

The free exchange of feeling and thought between Jesus and God was a synergy of purpose the world had never seen.  It was the Father & Son Redemption Co:  “Building the kingdom since 33 A.D.” Because the Father loved the Son so deeply, he revealed his plans and purposes to him, and the son obediently carried them out.  Over and over we see the reference of Jesus and the mutual commitment to executing a perfect blue print.

Multiple statements like these reveal the unwavering commitment of Jesus to God’s purposes in the world.  Jesus did not adopt His Father’s will for selfish purposes, to garner His affection, avoid His anger, or experience a reward.  For Jesus, it was a direct outcome of personally experiencing, seeing, and assigning importance to the Father’s purpose as a willing agent of expression.  We see a Jesus who is functionally attached to the Father’s will ready, sent and focused, we see the God-Man equipped to take His Father’s heart to the fullest extent possible.

How does this connection affect us and our relationship to the God head? According to Jesus, the exact same dynamics apply, custom designed to produce the same high octane and spiritually healthy commitment through us.

Father, thank you for the unifying heart you have given me.
